Internal consistency reliability

Analyze the associations between survey instrument items

Internal consistency reliability coefficients assess the inter-correlations among survey items. An assumption of internal consistency reliability is that all items are written to measure for one overall aggregate construct. Therefore, it is assumed that these items are inter-correlated at some conceptual or theoretical level.

There are three primary types of internal consistency reliability: Cronbach's alpha, split-half, and Kudar-Richardson 20 (KR-20).

Types of internal consistency reliability

Internal consistency reliability of survey items with response sets measured at an ordinal level (Likert-type scales).
Cronbach's Alpha
Internal consistency reliability that assumes two randomly assigned halves of a survey instrument should significantly correlate.
Split-Half Reliability
Internal consistency reliability of survey items with response sets measured at a categorical level (yes/no).
Kudar-Richardson 20 (KR-20)
