Many research databases are created in Excel because of the relative ease of creating and structuring a database in the program and because of its prevalence in the PC (personal computer) marketplace. 1. Save the Excel spreadsheet to your Desktop using a name that you can easily identify.
2. Start SPSS.
3. A window opens up. Click on the "Open an existing data source" marker to highlight it.
4. Click OK.
5. Navigate to the Desktop using the drop-down menu associated with Look in:.
6. Under the Files of Type: drop-down menu, click on Excel (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.xlsm) to select it.
7. Click on the Excel spreadsheet in the window to highlight it.
8. Click Open.
9. A new window opens up. Click on the drop-down menu for Worksheet: to select which sheet to upload into SPSS..
10. Click OK.
